Your Credit Card Rights
Most of us use credit cards and most of us have, at one point or another, experienced some problem with our credit card bills. An unauthorized charge may appear on a statement, or you might get charged twice for a single purchase. You may see that you have been charged for an item that you ordered but never received or may have been overcharged. On the darker side, someone may have stolen your card or information and run up fraudulent charges.
No matter how it occurs, there is protection under federal law for consumers who experience these kinds of billing problems. The law allows you to dispute charges you believe were made in error and forces credit card companies to investigate the dispute and remove the charges they agree are incorrect. The law also prevents credit card companies from reporting derrogatory information to credit bureaus regarding the disputed account while a dispute is being investigated
